Iowa's CCC: Additional Resources

Additional web resources on Iowa’s CCC:

  • http://www.iowadnr.com/parks/ccc/index.html  = DNR oral history project on Iowa CCC workers. Contains many downloadable interviews, photos, etc. A very thorough website.
  • http://www.iowadnr.com/parks/state_park_list/backbone.html = Link to Backbone State Park, which includes Iowa’s CCC museum. You can find directions and visitor hours for the museum on this site—plus links to the Iowa DNR’s CCC oral history project as named above.
  • http://www.lib.uiowa.edu/spec-coll/Bai/conard.htm = The Legacy of Hope from an Era of Despair: The CCC and Iowa State Parks by Rebecca Conard. From Books at Iowa 64 (April 1996). Copyright: The University of Iowa. This multi-page article provides much detail about the role the CCC played in developing and expanding Iowa’s state park system. Very detailed and includes a long list of references.
  • http://www.cccalumni.org/ = This detailed site “is sponsored by The National Association of Civilian Conservation Corps Alumni (NACCCA) to remember and celebrate the efforts of the Civilian Conservation Corps.”  It has some outstanding sections, including quick facts and statistics, a very readable history of the CCC from a national viewpoint, a state-by-state list of CCC camps (including Iowa), many related links and bibliographic sources, information about the national CCC museum in St. Louis, and much more.
