Brenda Mainwaring joins INHF boardThis article was written and posted on INHF's website in June 2005 Brenda Sutherland Mainwaring of Council Bluffs has been elected to the board of directors for the Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation (INHF). INHF is a statewide conservation organization that protects Iowa’s land, water and wildlife. Since its founding in 1979, this non-profit group has protected more than 80,000 acres of Iowa’s wild places. INHF’s best-known local projects include the Hitchcock Nature Area, Vincent Prairie Bluff and Wabash Trace Nature Trail. Mainwaring, a Council Bluffs native, is the Director of Corporate Relations with Union Pacific Railroad in Omaha. She also serves on the boards of directors for the Pottawattamie County Conservation Foundation, The Arts Center, Friends of the U.P. Museum and Artrain USA. “We’re making land-use decisions today that will impact future generations,” Mainwaring notes. “The Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation has a spectacular reputation for preserving wildlife habitat for the long-term, and I’m pleased to bring a southwest Iowa perspective to their efforts.” Mainwaring's conservation interests date back to childhood hours spent exploring nature. A graduate of the Iowa State Extension Master Gardener program, she has devoted much of her back yard to native plants and wildlife-friendly features. “INHF provides a focused way for me and others to conserve our state’s natural resources,” Mainwaring adds. “I particularly value their flexible approach to matching conservation methods to the needs of individual sites and landownerswhether that’s through public acquisition or adding conservation protections to property that remains in private ownership.” For more information,
