Central Iowa Trail Network

For many years, the Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation has been working with public and private partners throughout central Iowa to plan and create an extensive trail network.  The network will eventually include two great loops of 100 miles each, centered near Des Moines.

Much of the network is in place, and INHF and local agencies are working to connect trails into a larger system that will be attractive as a destination for visitors

The corridor connecting Ankeny, Slater, Sheldahl, Madrid and Woodward was secured by INHF and this trail is in process. Major funds have been secured, but additional gifts are still needed.

INHF continues to negotiate with Union Pacific to acquire other key corridors.

Contributions to this project can be directed to the Central Iowa Trails fund at the Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation.
