t's here! The 6th edition of Landowner’s Options: Safeguarding Iowa's natural resources for the future was printed in April 2007 and is available for distribution. As with the previous five editions, this free booklet is written and published by the Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation. It's designed to help Iowa landowners, their families and their professional advisors (legal, financial and otherwise) to explore ways to permanently protect their land's natural resources.
To receive a free copy sent by mail, send an e-mail to INHF requesting "The LOO book." Be sure to include your name and mailing address.
As in previous editions, the new Landowner’s Options outlines several methods of permanent land protectionland donations, bargain sales, fair market sales, conservation easements and more. Its colorful format, user-friendly language and real-life examples help ease readers through this potentially complicated and emotional issue. In addition to explaining protection options, the booklet contains supporting information about related tax and financial effects, long-term land management, land protection myths and other topics. It also provides an annotated list of public and private conservation groups that can assist landowners through the process.
In addition to donating its own resources to this project, INHF received substantial grant support from the state's Resource Enhancement and Protection (REAP) Conservation Education Fund. Several conservation groups, law firms and education groups also contributed financial support.
INHF is now creating an online version of the booklet which should be available by the end of May 2007. Keep checking back to this page for more information.
