Bike Trails
sells maps, books and guides about hiking and biking trails (including
the Iowa by Trail guide), and other bike-related products.
Appropriate Technology Transfer for Rural Areas (ATTRA), has
compiled a list of sustainable agriculture organizations and publications
across the nation.
Audubon
Society's Audubon Ark web site details the "Audubon Ark,"
an old-fashioned paddlewheel boat that will spend 28 days journeying
up Mississippi River to celebrate the river's culture and raise
awareness about the vital role it plays in the environment.
Audubon Society's Upper Mississippi River Campaign web site
has a calendar of river restoration workshops, newsletter, and
information on being a part of the Audubon Ark.
Effigy
Mounds National Monument
includes 29 of the 46 remaining effigy mounds in the United States
and provides exceptional diversity of plant and animal species.
INHF helped with a 1045-acre addition in 2000.
Environmental
Protection Agency's
website has EPA publications available for download, information
on water and air quality, energy conservation, pollution and human
health, as well as policy documents and information on EPA programs.
The Iowa Environmental Leadership Institute web
site was designed to address Midwestern organizations and concerns.
They have links to member organizations, a calendar of workshops,
conferences and events, and a discussion page for the friendly
exchange of questions, answers and comments.
Land Trust Alliance's mission is to strengthen the land trust
movement, helping ensure that land trusts conserve land for the
benefit of communities and natural systems. INHF is a land trust
organization.
Mississippi River
Basin Alliance is a coalition of 90+ member organizations
focuses on sustainable agriculture, wetlands restoration, navigation,
water quality and toxics.
Mississippi River Blufflands
Alliance is a partnership of organizations, individuals and
landowners working to protect and preserve the bluffs along the
Mississippi River. INHF is a founding partner.
National Fish and
Wildlife Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated
to the conservation of fish, wildlife and plants and the habitat
that they depend.
Neal
Smith National Wildlife Refuge
is a 5,000-acre refuge of tallgrass prairie and native Midwest
wildlife (including bison) in Jasper County.
The Rails to Trails Conservancy is a nonprofit
organization dedicated to enriching America's communities and
countryside by creating a nationwide network of public trails
from former rail lines and connecting corridors. INHF has been
very involved in this unit.

fosters lifelong stewardship of the environment by offering opportunities
for education, leadership, and personal development while providing
the highest quality public service in natural resource management,
cultural preservation, environmental protection and conservation.

Iowa Environmental Council is an alliance of diverse organizations and individuals working with all Iowans to protect our natural environmental through shaping public policy, research and education, coalition building, and advocacy.
The Iowa Conservation Education Council's Iowa
Environmental Education site advertises itself as a "one-stop
shop for the environmental educator,"and includes environmental
education resources, workshop, grant information, etc.
University
of Iowa's Center for Global and Regional Environmental Research
promotes interdisciplinary efforts on the multiple aspects of
global environmental change, including the regional effects on
natural effects, environments, and resources, and on human health,
culture, and social systems.

Trails are something that INHF has been involved with for many years. Take a look at what's available in your area!
Clean Water Alliance for Iowa Great Lakes
(also known as the Dickinson County Clean Water Alliance) is an
organization of government agencies and private groups that seek
to improve water quality for the Iowa Great Lakes, located in
the northwest corner of Iowa, by reducing the amount of sediment,
nutrients, pesticides, and animal waste entering the numerous
lakes in the watershed. INHF is a key partner.
Des Moines Water Works EMPACT. Environmental Monitoring for
Public Access and Community Tracking, is part of a $3.5 million
national campaign sponsored by the United States Environmental
Protection Agency (EPA). Des Moines project is one of four
water quality EMPACT projects.
Dickinson
County Clean Water Alliance protects water quality in and
around Iowa's Great Lakes. INHF is a key partner.
Iowa
Association of County Conservation Boards is a non-profit
organization that promotes the objectives and supplement the activities
of the county conservation boards, exchange information, assist
boards and members in program development and provide a unified
voice in the legislature.
Iowa River Greenbelt Resource Trust is committed
to preserving, protecting and enhancing the Iowa River Greenbelt
for future generations. INHF is a key partner.
The Iowa Division of the Izaak Walton League of America is part of a grassroots volunteer program where members look for practical and beneficial solutions to today's conservation problems. Their work includes stream and wetland restoration, establishing wildlife refuges and parks, fighting for cleaner air and healthier forests, and teaching outdoor ethics to thousands of recreationists.
Johnson
County Heritage Trust
is a non-profit organization committed to the preservation and
enjoyment of natural areas, primarily in Johnson County, Iowa.
Loess Hills Preservation Society works to protect the unique natural resources and landforms of the Loess Hills through education, land protection projects, sound land use planning and land acquisition.
Go fishing in the lake or ride your bike on the Sauk Rail Trail
at Swan
Lake State Park, a 510-acre multi-use area near Carroll. This
is an INHF project.

This restoration game, hosted by the University of Minnesota's
Bell Museum of Natural History, challenges you to create a thriving
prairie ecosystem by selecting the right plants and animals.
Central Iowa Bike Rides Organizations and Clubs website has
a calendar of bike rides in Iowa, a directory of member organizations
and a map of Iowa bike trails.
Envirolink is a non-profit, grassroots
on-line environmental community that unites hundreds of organizations
and volunteers.
Idealist, a project of Action Without
Borders, is a global directory of 14,000 nonprofit organizations
and internship opportunities.
Iowa:
Portrait of the Land is beautifully written and illustrated,
full-color, 90-page book about Iowa's land and natural resources.
The book was written and published by the Iowa Department of Natural
Resources for Earth Day 2000. INHF provided some funding and distributed
free copies to each of our then-members. Now, anyone can read
the on-line version.
Iowa's Vegetation Communities teaches visitors about the various
vegetation communities found throughout Iowa.
Visit
the John F. Lacey homepage, a section of the INHF website,
and read about the efforts of this Iowa congressman who pioneered
the national conservation movement a century ago.
