INHF 2002 Interns

Seven Iowa college students have been selected to intern this summer at the Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation to learn more about their fields of interest while helping to preserve Iowa's natural environment. The following students will intern at INHF this summer:

Nicki Ausen
of Urbandale, IA, is a senior in journalism and mass communication with a visual communications emphasis at Iowa State University. Her responsibilities include managing the INHF Website, designing the calendar, writing news releases and magazine articles and other communications projects.

Jill Clausen of Ogden, IA, is a senior in animal ecology with a wildlife option at Iowa State University. Her responsibilities include grant writing, easement monitoring and other program support jobs.

John Cutler of West Des Moines, IA, is a freshman in liberal arts and sciences at Iowa State University. His responsibilities include land management and maintenance on prairies, wetlands, savannas and other natural areas in Iowa.

Colleen Evenhouse of Pella, IA, is a graduate student in urban and regional planning at the University of Iowa, where she is concentrating on environmental and land use planning. Her responsibilities include land management at several central Iowa sites as well as grant writing and researching.

Amy Lekwa of Nevada, IA, is a junior in animal ecology with an interpretation option at Iowa State University. Her responsibilities include land management and maintenance on prairies, wetlands, savannas and other natural areas in Iowa.

Nicole Paseka of Onawa, IA, is a sophomore in journalism and mass communication with a newspaper emphasis at Iowa State University. Her responsibilities include writing for the INHF magazine, creating press releases, maintaining the clips database, completing the Hagie Heritage Award publicity, and other communications projects.

Natasha Schuchmann of Marshalltown, IA, is a freshman in animal ecology with a pre-veterinary option at Iowa State University. Her responsibilities include land management and maintenance on prairies, wetlands, savannas and other natural areas in Iowa.

The following two students completed internships at INHF during the spring of 2002:

Jonah Katz of Edmond, OK, is a junior in environmental policy and political science at Drake University. His responsibilities included environmental policy research and other program support jobs.

Karen Scherer of Coon Rapids, MN, is a sophomore in journalism and mass communication at Drake University. Her responsibilities included the initial publicity for the Hagie Heritage Award, researching and writing materials about the Upper Iowa River for the INHF Website, writing for the INHF magazine, creating press releases, and maintaining the clips database.
