Area youth maintain Wabash Trace Nature Trail

Note: This article was first published in the Summer 2004 edition of INHF's quarterly magazine.

Four young men from southwest Iowa are maintaining the Wabash Trace Nature Trail this summer as part of the Heritage Conservation Corps program. They are hired and supervised through an annual program managed by INHF and Southwest Iowa Nature Trails (SWINT), a local volunteer group. Funded by $13,290 grant from the Iowa Department of Transportation's Urban Youth Corps program, the crew cleans flood damage, trims trees and brush from the trail and helps with trail events.

The 2004 Wabash Trace crew includes Jim Pavkov, Hastings; Kyle Burkheiser, Red Oak; Kenneth Hamilton, Braddyville and Nathan Paul, Hastings.
