Hardin County scenic addition

This article first appeared in INHF's Summer 2006 magazine.

INHF and the Hardin County Conservation Board have permanently protected a major portion of the scenic views from the Sac and Fox Overlook. Between this acquisition and previous projects, 90% of the land visible within a half mile of the overlook is now publicly protected.

The overlook is located along the Iowa River Greenbelt Scenic Drive and is easily accessible from Highway 20. The newly protected 150-acre site, located along the west bank of the Iowa River, is immediately north of Pine Ridge Park. It will be owned by the county and managed for wildlife habitat and ecological restoration.

Acquisition funds came from the Transportation Enhancement Program, the Gunderson Family Fund of INHF and Hardin County Conservation Board land protection funds.
