The Parks, Recreation and Preserves Division maintains records of known locations threatened, endangered and special concern plant and animal species. While this information is not available for distribution to the public, they will work with an interested party to determine if there is are or there is a possibility of an occurrence in a specified area. The Spirit Lake Regional Office of the DNR is completing a detailed land use assessment of the Iowa Great Lakes Watershed. This assessment will determine current land use and management practices and analyze them in order to determine the 'hot spots' for protection in the watershed. The results of this assessment will be used to identify critical areas for conservation. This information will hopefully be included in the Iowa Rivers Information System (IRIS) website.
