Gearing up for Bike Month

May is National Bike Month.

May is National Bike Month.

April showers bring May flowers–and May brings out the bikes! Celebrate Bike Month Iowa with the Des Moines Bicycle Collective. With the support of local sponsors, including INHF, the Collective has planned a full calendar of events for Iowa cyclists to “change Greater Des Moines two wheels at a time.”

Kick-off  |  Get the party started on Friday, April 24. From 5-7 p.m. at the Des Moines Bicycle Collective shop in the East Village, enjoy live music, refreshments and food from Local Yocals food truck.

Taco RAVE  |  Join INHF for a RAVE on the Great Western Trail on Tuesday, May 19. Bikes, tacos and Random Acts of Volunteering for the Earth. Volunteers can help pick up trash and plant prairie seed along the route, with prizes and giveaways at the finish.

Passport Adventure  |  Cyclists can pick up Bike Month passports at local libraries, the Des Moines Bicycle Collective Shop or Bike Month events. Then, attend participating events to get stamped and win prizes!

Prizes will be awarded at the Bike Month Awards Ceremony on June 14 at Woody’s Smoke Shack.
