As cooler weather arrives and the trees begin to turn beautiful shades of orange, yellow and red, October offers the perfect opportunity to get outdoors and enjoy all Iowa has to offer.

And whether you’re an avid birdwatcher or just someone who appreciates nature, the Iowa Wildlife Center has the perfect Saturday afternoon event for you.

Head out to the High Trestle trail for an afternoon of birdwatching and educational enrichment overlooking the picturesque Des Moines River valley.

We promise you won’t be disappointed – last year during the first High Trestle Hawk Watch, birdwatchers spotted 171 raptors, represented by eight different species. An additional 36 species were observed during the event, including more than 800 American White Pelicans.

Don’t own your own pair of binoculars? No problem! The Iowa Wildlife Center will provide some for visitors to borrow.
