ITC Midwest Relationship

On May 14, 2014, INHF and International Transmission Company (ITC) spent the morning at the Snyder Heritage Farm educating our interns about power lines and their management in natural areas. This was an interactive discussion where Troy Weary, Area Manager for ITC Midwest, and Chip Murrow, Forester with Davey, discussed their roles with both companies and how transmission lines and vegetation management of the lines affect the land.

INHF formed this relationship with ITC a few years ago. This relationship supports the land stewardship intern program by educating interns on transmission lines and how they may impact their future careers. Many transmission lines go through natural areas, so it is important to understand different management techniques within utility corridors that can help keep the lines free of brush while providing habitat for wildlife. Prairie plantings under transmission lines have started to become more popular throughout the Midwest.
