It’s a celebration! On Saturday, May 4th, join in the festivities for the grand opening of the McFarlane Park Bridge on the Cedar Valley Nature Trail to recognize the efforts that went into building the bridge. The bridge is located east of La Porte City. Enjoy music by The Ramblers from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and a special ceremony at 1:00 p.m. The La Porte City Fire/Rescue will have a pulled pork meal available for $5 per person.

The Cedar Valley Nature Trail suffered high amounts of damage in the 2008 floods, causing portions of the trail to be closed until repairs could be made. Over $3 million in federal and state grant money was used to reconstruct the bridge. With the opening of the McFarlane Park Bridge, the entire 52-mile-long trail is now open for recreation.

DSCN0995The Cedar Valley Nature Trail was one of INHF’s first trail projects 30 years ago. Since then, INHF has helped partners create nearly 600 of Iowa’s 1,000 miles of rail-trails.
