Over the next month, INHF will be sharing the impact Iowa's REAP program has in communities throughout the state. The Iowa DNR is hosting regional REAP Assemblies until Oct. 26, local meetings that allow residents to learn more about REAP and play a role in the programs policies and projects. Find the full REAP Assembly schedule here.

Waterman Creek complex

FEATURED PROJECT

Waterman Wildlife Addition

The northwestern corner of Iowa is known for its distinctive combination of natural features: extensive prairie remnants, scenic glacial bluffs, and steep, wooded river valleys. The convergence of Waterman Creek and the Little Sioux River stands out as one of the region's crowning jewels: The swift current where the two waterways meet is strong enough to keep the water from freezing during even the coldest winters. As a result, the area draws a phenomenal number of migrating and wintering birds—especially birds of prey! The Waterman Wildlife Addition permanently protected the confluence point of the waterways, plus almost a mile of the Little Sioux River.

REAP funding for this project: $485,000

Region 3

Total REAP investment in Region 3: $20,519,285
