Posted on October 5, 2015 in Press Center

Join experts and birding novice at the family-friendly High Trestle Hawk Watch on Saturday, Oct. 10, from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. The hawk watch will be at the High Trestle Bridge’s main viewing platform on the west side of the bridge and the new shelter on the East side of the bridge.

There will be naturalists and bird experts from five different organizations on hand to offer information to beginning hawk watchers and the birds they see on Saturday. In past years, bird watchers have seen up to 171 raptors (represented by eight different species) and 45 additional species of birds.

There will be binoculars and viewing scopes provided, but participants are encouraged to bring their own binoculars, refreshments, and lawn chairs if they plan to stay awhile. They should also dress for the weather. The event will be held rain or shine.

The event is a joint effort of the Iowa Wildlife Center, Boone County Conservation Board, Dallas County Conservation Board, Iowa Department of Natural Resources, Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation and Iowa Audubon.
