Interns restore
central Iowa prairies

Thanks to funding from the Central Iowa Prairie Network (CIPN) and the Iowa Prairie Network, INHF interns helped restore prairies throughout central Iowa this summer. In addition to working on INHF natural areas (covered by funding from the R.J. McElroy Trust), INHF helped restore four remnant prairies and one oak savanna in three central Iowa counties.

"Thanks to CIPN's donation, we were able to work on prairies that otherwise would not have gotten attention," said Joe McGovern, INHF's land stewardship director. "There is a lot of work left, but we made a lot of progress in preserving some of this area's last prairie remnants. Partnering with other conservation groups-like the county conservation boards in Polk, Story and Hamilton counties-helped us maximize our efforts."
