A Message for Earth Day 2010This article was written and released in April 2010.
This week Americans mark the 40th anniversary of Earth Day, an event that signifies our growing awareness and appreciation of the planet, and our responsibilities to take action on its behalf. Iowa is our home, the small corner of the world that the Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation and our members have taken responsibility to help protect and care for. It may sound like a cliché, but for INHF it’s true: Every day is earth day, every day is a day for action. Everything we do is geared toward protecting and restoring Iowa’s land, water and wildlife for today … tomorrow … forever … That’s why I regard Earth Day as a way of life, rather than an event. I probably speak for all of INHF’s staff when I say that this movement has helped guide our careers, and it inspires us this week and all year – as it has during the 31 years since INHF was established. I urge you to take a look at our website Events page or our Facebook page to see how you might get more involved in this Earth Day and in the movement: Get outdoors, ride a trail, help restore a prairie, attend a concert, share the news, change to a more energy efficient appliance, give a donation, make a change – or save something from changing. Happy 4th decade, Earth Day, and many more to come! I thank and honor all of you, our members, donors, landowners and other partners, who help make this work possible. In celebration, we offer a short slideshow of some of our favorite places we’ve protected together.
