Join Polk County Conservation, City of Des Moines, Polk County Soil and Water Conservation District, the Easter Lake Watershed Project and other local partners to celebrate the 25th anniversary of National Public Lands Day! Together, we'll remove trash in and along Yeader Creek, and invasive species and litter in Ewing Park.

Grab your coffee and head over early in the morning, at 9:00 a.m. to check-in and check out our mini rain barrel workshop, educational tables and a water quality monitoring demo. Join us at 10:00 a.m. to get your hands on the land volunteering. At noon, we’ll turn in volunteer gear and draw door prizes (horseback riding gift certificate, canoe rentals, camping passes and a grand prize rain barrel)!

Please wear clothes that you don't mind getting dirty and wet if working in the creek. Gloves and waders will be available in limited supply. Bring your own waders, boots and gloves if you have them. For all work areas, volunteers must wear long pants, closed-toe shoes and bring a refillable water bottle. Meet-up across the street to the north from Ashley Oakland Playground, 1895 E. Mckinley Ave.

An RSVP is required for this event

Head over to Yellow Banks Park after the cleanup to join the Outdoor Stewards of Iowa, a new conservation-minded group that connects outdoor enthusiasts with local volunteer opportunities, for an afternoon of yard games and relaxation. Brats, hot dogs, and chips will be provided at 5:00 pm. Free camping will also be available at Yellow Banks Park on Saturday evening for current and potential Outdoor Stewards of Iowa members that participate in this event. Space is limited. Email outdoorstewardsofiowa@gmail.com to join OSI and reserve your camp spot.
