Doolittle Prairie Walk

Join the Iowa Native Plant Society (INPS), Iowa Prairie Network (IPN) and Story County Conservation (PCC) for the third in a series of prairie walks at Doolittle Prairie, a 40-acre tract of pothole prairie in Story County.

Drake University Biology Professor Dr. Tom Rossburg will lead the walk. The format is casual and informational, focusing on questions from participants and identification of both blooming and vegetative plants. This is a good opportunity to view the prairie as it changes during the summer.

DETAILS

Insect repellent, long pants, and sturdy shoes are recommended. The site has pot holes so be prepared for some wet spots.

DIRECTIONS

Doolittle Prairie is located north of Ames and south of Story City. From I-35 take Exit 123 (Roland and E18/130th St exit) and go west on E18 for ~ ½ mile until 560th Ave (a gravel road); turn south and go 1½ miles. There is a sign at the preserve entrance on the west side of the road - follow the lane back to the parking lot and prairie.
