There is a $10 fee for this event, which includes dinner and educational materials.

This class is a pre-cursor to Upcycle Stewards events that’ll be held at Gray’s Lake Park the third Thursday of each month June - August. The class is not required to attend the event series.

About UpCycle Stewards

Get outdoors and help restore one of Des Moines' most popular parks!

Join Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation, Des Moines Parks and Recreation, Blank Park Zoo and Trees Forever this summer to help remove invasive plants from the woodlands around Gray's Lake Park. After the event, organizers will take the plants to Blank Park Zoo where they will be "upcycled" into food for the zoo animals. No RSVP necessary - just show up!

Events are held the third Thursday of each month June - August from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. After the event, we’ll head over to Confluence Brewing Company where the first 30 volunteers (age 21 and over) will receive a free beer compliments of Confluence.

Volunteers that participate in all three volunteer events (June 21, July 19 and August 16) will be entered into a drawing for a chance to win a family four pack entrance to the zoo along with a “feed bundle” which includes food to feed the parakeets, ostriches, giraffes, kid's kingdom animals and fish!
