About the Ronald "Dick" Jordan Family Wildlife Area
Fundraising was recently completed on this 175-acre property along the South Skunk River just south of Ames. The property, which offers hiking, birding, hunting and other recreation activities, is now open to the public. Marilyn Baldus, daughter of Dick Jordan, worked closely with the Story County Conservation Board (SCCB) and Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation (INHF) to create an opportunity to establish a public wildlife area on the land once owned by her parents, donating a portion of the land's value to ensure permanent protection and future public ownership. INHF purchased and held the property while funds were being raised to complete the project. It is now owned and managed by SCCB.
