Marietta hand-harvesting event

This article appeared in the Fall 2005 edition of INHF's magazine.

Laurie Fenimore/INHF

Volunteers of all ages recently joined the Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation and Marshall County Conservation Board in hand-harvesting prairie seed at Marietta Sand Prairie. Prairie seeds collected during the event will be planted on a 212-acre addition recently purchased by INHF. Marietta and its addition contain remnants of sand prairie, a unique ecosystem with exceptional species diversity. The partners are raising the last $15,000 of the $456,000 needed to acquire and restore this addition. To help, contact Anita O’Gara at 800-475-1846 or aogara@inhf.org. Watch for other Marietta volunteer events in 2006 and beyond.

Visit the Marietta home page to learn more about this projcet and ways you can help.
