Graphic Design internships

INHF's graphic design intern helps with important INHF projects, such as designing the INHF calendar.

This internship is currently filled; check back for openings.

Gain real-world experience by designing professional-quality publications and web pages.

Job description
Our graphic design intern designs the INHF calendar (summer only), brochures, invitations, ads, and many other items. This intern also maintains and improves INHF's website and helps out with photography selection, editing and management. Depending on skills and interest, other communications/PR work may be assigned.

This position usually goes to graphic design majors, journalism majors with visual design specialty or others with strong design/web design experience and coursework. Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite is a big plus. Web experience is also very helpful, but we can train you.

We're looking for students who are:

  • Attentive to detail
  • Flexible and capable of working on multiple projects with varying deadlines
  • Comfortable working on a team
  • Organized and manage time well

There is a preference for applicants who can take the position for more than one semester, but one-semester applicants are also considered. Design interns work in our downtown Des Moines office and must have their own transportation to and from work. The intern should be able to work a minimum of 12 hours/week during the spring and fall semesters and 35-40 hours/week during the summer. This is a paid position at $9.50/hour.

Application info

To apply for the internship, please email Laura Johnson the following:

  • A one-page cover letter
  • Resume
  • 4-6 samples of your work (published samples are ideal, but classroom work is also accepted)*
  • A copy (official or unoffical) of your transcripts

*Applicants are encouraged to send graphic design samples or links to their online work. However, we realize many graphic design projects can't be duplicated and/or are too bulky to send. Thus, while it's helpful for us to have something to review in advance when selecting who to interview, we realize this isn't always possible and assume you will bring your portfolio to the interview.

Email your application materials to the address below. Feel free to call or email in advance if you have questions.
