The Iowa River is
an excellent place for fishing. Largemouth and smallmouth
bass, bluegills, crappies, channel catfish, bullheads, northern
pike, walleye and even white bass are caught in the river in different
areas.
Canoe or tubing trips
are also possible on the Iowa River through Hardin County. Numerous
canoe
accesses are located at points along the river, and canoes
or innertubes can be rented from local outfitters. The
Hardin County Conservation Board distributes a guide to the Iowa
River called "Canoeing the Iowa" that details places
to canoe, camp and fish along the river. Click here to request
a copy of the guide.
Trails throughout the Greenbelt provide prime places for hiking
or biking. On the next page, learn more about the Pine
Lake/Tower Rock Trail, a paved multiuse trail in the Greenbelt.
Or enjoy the scenery of the Greenbelt from the comfort of your
car by taking the Iowa River Greenbelt Scenic Drive, which
follows the Iowa River through the Greenbelt.
