GreenWood receives grant support
This article was written and released in January 2007. In December of 2006, the Greater Des Moines Community Foundation awarded a Community Enhancement Grant in the amount of $60,000 to the GreenWood Project. GreenWood is a collaborative effort of the Greater Des Moines conservation, creative arts and education communities. A proposed GreenWood Creative Conservation Education Center would be located in the former Science Center of Iowa building in Des Moines’s Greenwood Park. GreenWood will provide hands-on environmental education incorporating visual and performing arts. The $60,000 grant will be used to conduct research, build partnerships, develop a proposed plan and begin to design the first two years of programming. The public is invited to attend a GreenWood input meeting on Thursday, January 18, from 7-8:30 p.m. at the Plymouth Congregational Church Greenwood Room, located at 4126 Ingersoll Avenue in Des Moines. Volunteers are needed from the conservation, creative arts and education communities to brainstorm programming ideas for GreenWood. The Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation has been among several groups exploring the feasibility of bringing conservation programming to this well-known Des Moines facility. Donations the GreenWood feasibility study can be sent to INHF through our website or by mail (INHF, 505 Fifth Ave #444, Des Moines, IA 50309-2321).
