Gundersons donate land by Pine Lake

Note: This article was first published in the Spring 2005 edition of INHF's quarterly magazine.

Bob and Mary Lou Gunderson of Eldora have donated 13 acres bordering Pine Lake State Park to the Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation. The land lies just north of Eldora along the Iowa River. It adjoins Pine Lake State Park and will eventually be transferred to the Iowa DNR as a park addition.

Protection of the site’s wooded bluffs preserves scenery and wildlife habitat. A proposed trail linking Eldora to the Hardin County farm museum may someday run through the site.

The Gundersons have worked extensively with INHF through their donor-advised fund and the Iowa River Greenbelt Trust. Mary Lou also serves as an INHF advisor. The couple hopes their donation will help INHF secure matching grants for other projects in Hardin County.
