INHF land protection

Since our founding in 1979, the Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation and our partners have protected more than 800 sites in 94 of Iowa's 99 counties.

Now totaling more than 120,000 acres, many of these sites are now county and state parks, public wildlife areas, and popular trails.

We also help willing Iowa landowners place conservation protections on their land: maintaining private ownership while protecting public benefits like water quality, wildlife habitat and iconic scenery.

Search our projects by county to learn about protected areas near you and/or to discover natural areas to explore.
