INHF's role in the high trestle trail
Updated July 2011
The High Trestle Trail is an example of one of INHF's more involved and complex trail projects.
This 25-mile trail crosses nine legal jurisdictions: five cities and four counties. Rather than negotiate with nine entities, the Union Pacific Railroad preferred to arrange a bargain sale of the entire 439-acre corridor to INHF, which we later transferred to the partner agencies.
In addition to assuming interim ownership, INHF assisted our partners with grant writing, private fundraising and public relations. Our role with trails does not include construction, engineering or maintenance.
