Trail description:
The Heritage Trail gets its name from its rich cultural and natural setting. The 26-mile trail passes through deep rugged woodlands, sheer limestone bluffs, wetland communities and prairies.
Because it follows the former Chicago Northwestern rail bed from Dyersville to Dubuque, there are also traces of old mining and mill towns.

There is a map, scenic qualities, historical facts, trail facts, trail etiquette and other unique tidbits about the cities the trail runs through.

You know you’re in Iowa when there’s an entire building devoted to miniature tractors and farmer bobble-heads. The National Farm Toy Museum is a fun place for the whole farm-loving family. The site has information on the museum and links to farm toy vendors. Take a photo tour for a glimpse of the exhibits.

“Get your feet wet” at the National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium. Board the riverboat museum, stay on the “boat & breakfast” or walk through the wetlands at this Dubuque attraction.
