An AmeriCorps team removed invasive brush from the oak savanna at INHF’s Snyder Farm in Polk County.

A 10-member AmeriCorps team worked with INHF and the Polk County Conservation Board from Sept. 12 to Nov. 1. This year’s group, composed of five women and five men from ages 18-24, worked primarily in central Iowa on INHF property. Their tasks included harvesting prairie seeds and removing invasive species from native prairies, oak savannas and a fen.

Created in 1994, the AmeriCorps NNCC (National Civilian Community Corps) has employed more than 11,000 young adults. Working in small teams, they assist thousands of Americans and their communities. This is the fifth year AmeriCorps has assisted INHF in land stewardship work.
