Places I'll remember

This article first appeared in INHF's Spring 2009 magazine.

"There are places I'll remember all my life" is the opening line of the Beatles' classic song “In My Life.” All of us have those special places, filled with meaning and experience – the places that help stock the shelves of our memories.

Very often these special places are natural places where we find beauty, solitude and inspiration.

This edition of the Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation’s magazine builds on the theme “Once upon a place.” It describes the efforts of individuals and families across Iowa to expand the special places to be enjoyed now and by future generations. Last year INHF worked with landowners to protect or restore 5,400 acres on 37 sites in 28 Iowa counties!

One of Iowa’s greatest assets is our people. The dedication of Iowans to protecting and preserving the natural beauty and unique features of our land is inspiring.

The board, staff and advisors of INHF are deeply grateful for the efforts of our landowners and our members. We thank you for giving us the opportunity to help make permanent your passion for safeguarding Iowa’s natural heritage.

We hope you find these stories inspiring and encourage you to consider what more you can do to create and sustain Iowa’s special places.

Neil Hamilton, Chair
INHF Board of Directors
