INHF online publications

Many of the Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation's publications are available both in print and online. You'll find links to our key online publications below. For information about INHF publications that aren't available online, click the "publications" button above.

Landowner’s Options: Safeguarding Iowa’s natural resources for the future, 6th edition. Like the 52-page booklet, published in 2007, this online version helps you explore many methods of permanent land protection—whether you intend to maintain or transfer ownership. Topics include land donation, bargain sales, fair market sales, conservation easements and more—plus background information on the tax and financial impacts, a glossary and an annotated list of potential conservation partners.

Woodland Health: Stewardship Options for Iowa Woodland Owners was written by INHF staff member Cheri Grauer and published by INHF in 2004. This 32-page booklet provides a holistic view of caring for Iowa woodlands--from the top of the canopy to the woodland flowers and wildlife below. Chapter topics include the history of Iowa woodlands, controlling invasive plants, avoid fragmentation and much more.

A Bird's Eye View: A Guide to Managing and Protecting Your Land for Neotropical Migratory Birds in the Upper Mississippi River Blufflands was written by INHF staff member Marlene Ehresman and published by INHF in 2003. Neotropical migrants are birds that spend their summers in northern Mexico, the U.S., and Canda and spend their winters in southern Mexico, Central and South America. The Mississippi River, which forms Iowa's eastern border, is a major migratory route for these birds. This 44-page book provides background information on these birds, threats to their long-term survival, tips to promote that survival. It also contains several maps, diagrams and an 8-page full-color insert with bird photos.

INHF has researched and compiled available natural resource data for the Iowa Great Lakes watershed and Dickinson County. The results of this research were compiled in order to make the information more readily available and are intended to be used in planning and evaluating projects in the Dickinson County and Iowa Great Lakes watershed areas.
