Program Support/Grant Writing Internships

INHF's Program Support intern helps write grants and assists with INHF events.

The application deadline for the summer 2016 position is Thursday, March 17.

The program support intern plays a vital role in the organization by writing grants that will provide funding for on-the-ground land conservation.

Job description
The program support intern’s main focus is researching and writing grant proposals to fund land protection. He or she may also write posts for the INHF blog, visit properties, and provide general program support. There is a certain degree of flexibility outside the internship’s grant writing core, and we encourage candidates to make the position their own. The program introduces interns to many leading members of Iowa's conservation community. The program support intern is supervised by Lisa Hein, INHF Program and Planning Director.

Project examples
Program support interns have helped write grants for additions to the Waterman Prairie Complex and the protection of the Loess Hills, Upper Iowa River and Wabash Trace Nature Trail. Interns have also assisted with planning INHF events and have written for the INHF blog.

What we're looking for
The program support intern must have very strong writing skills and be comfortable working independently. In the past, we've hired English majors (especially those with grant-writing experience) with environmental interest and students from environmental and planning fields who have strong communication skills. Both undergraduate and graduate students may apply. GIS/ArcView experience is a big plus, but not required. Applicants must submit writing samples, published or unpublished.

The position is full time in the summer, beginning in mid-May and ending in August. This is a paid position at a rate of $9.50/hour.
