Program Support/Grant Writing Internships
|INHF's Program Support intern helps write grants and assists with INHF events.|
We are now accepting applications for our summer program support intern. Application deadline is March 18, 2015.
The program support intern plays a vital role in the organization by writing grants that will provide funding for on-the-ground land conservation.
The program support intern’s main focus is researching and writing grant proposals to fund land protection. He or she may also write posts for the INHF blog, help facilitate events and provide other general program support. There is a certain degree of flexibility outside the internship’s grant writing core, and we encourage candidates to make the position their own. The program introduces interns to many leading members of Iowa's conservation community. The program support intern is supervised by Lisa Hein, INHF Program and Planning Director.
Program support interns have helped write grants for additions to Stone State Park and the protection of the Loess Hills, Upper Iowa River and Wabash Trace Nature Trail. Interns have also assisted with planning INHF events and seminars.
What we're looking for
The program support intern must have very strong writing skills and be comfortable working independently. In the past, we've hired English majors (especially those with grant-writing experience) with environmental interest and students from environmental and planning fields who have strong communication skills. Both undergraduate and graduate students may apply. GIS/ArcView experience is a big plus. Applicants must submit writing samples, published or unpublished.
This position is generally 15 hours per week during the school year and full time in the summer. There is a preference for applicants who can take the position for more than one semester, but one-semester applicants will also be considered. This is a paid position at a rate of $9.50/hour.
