About this trail
The Summerset Trail is a 12-mile trail connecting Indianola and Carlisle. Visitors to the trail are treated to a wide variety of rural Iowa scenery, including a heavily wooded section for five miles north of Indianola, large wetland areas between Summerset and Carlisle, the scenic Middle River bridge crossing and various prairie remnants.
A trail into Banner Lakes at Summerset State Park is at the midpoint of the Summerset Trail. At the Indianola trailhead, the Summerset Trail connects to the city’s McVay Trail, which is a 1.6-mile paved trail that goes to Pickard Park.
