New Wapsi River wildlife areaINHF and Buchanan County Conservation are working to acquire, restore and protect 157 acres on the Wapsipinicon River. Its bottomland wetlands will be protected, and upland grassland will be restored for wildlife habitat and recreation. This project will protect nearly one mile of the Wapsipinicon River, which has been designated by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources as a Protected Waters Area. This stretch of the river is also on Iowa's 303(d) Impaired Waters List. About $50,000 remains to be raised for this half-million-dollar project.
