"Wild Iowa" Essays

Note: This article was first published in the Spring 2005 edition of INHF's quarterly magazine.

The first Wild Iowa Essay Project drew 47 entries in the adult and student categories. Ten of those authors received cash awards and read their essays at the ISU Wildness Symposium on Feb. 20-22 in Ames.

The project was sponsored by the Agrestal Fund of INHF. In keeping with Agrestal's mission, its goal was to encourage "people of all ages to think and write ardently about a self-reliant, spontaneous, awe-invoking state known as wildness, specifically as it exists in Iowa."

For more about the project, including a list of contest entrants and full texts of the 10 selected essays, visit www.inhf.org/agrestalessayproject.htm.

For more information, e-mail Cathy Engstrom, Director of Communications, or call (515) 288-1846.
