25th Anniversary Non-land Projects

This article first appeared in INHF's Winter 2007 magazine.

INHF also completed an impressive array of education and outreach projects in 1982.

  • Published the first edition of The Landowner’s Options, our booklet about methods of voluntary land protection (the 6th edition will be published this spring!)

  • Co-published Iowa Natural Heritage, a coffee-table book with information and photos about Iowa’s natural resources (with Iowa Academy of Science)

  • Co-produced Outlook, a K-12 conservation education curriculum (with the Iowa Department of Public Instruction and the University of Northern Iowa)

  • Educated the public and agri-business companies about soil conservation

  • Participated in early planning and fundraising that led to the dedication of the 1700 Ioway Farm, part of Living History Farms in Des Moines

  • Helped found the Land Trust Exchange (the national coalition of land trusts, since renamed the Land Trust Alliance)

  • Launched our first membership campaign (52 of our current members have been with us since at least 1982)
