Prairie Grow, Prairie Grow- a volunteer seed harvest (Western IA)
By Taylor on September 16, 2014 in Blog
Turin Prairie in the Loess Hills is one of INHF’s latest gems. Join us this fall for a seed harvest on one of the most beautiful ridge-line prairies in the state.
What: We will hand harvest seed into buckets or bags and either use the seed to plant prairie the day-of, or store them for the winter.
When: Saturday, October 4th, 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. Please arrive at or before 1:00 p.m. if possible (the prairie ridge/ orientation site is a distance from the parking area).
Where: Turin Prairie – details sent upon registration.
Details: The terrain can be rugged. We will be transporting volunteers from the parking area to near the ridge (so please arrive a little early). For your comfort, we suggest wearing closed-toe shoes suitable for walking on grassy hills; jeans or long pants; long sleeves; and a hat and sunscreen. No experience necessary. All ages welcome.
Please bring a water bottle, work/garden gloves, and clippers or heavy scissors if possible.
With questions or to RSVP, contact Mary Runkel, INHF Volunteer Coordinator at 515-288-1846 or by at mrunkel@inhf.org.
