National Trails Day 2019

Join Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation, Polk County Conservation and REI West Des Moines to celebrate National Trails Day! We will be working to refinish and maintain Jester Park's trails. After our trail work, we'll gather together for music, food and a pint of Peace Tree Brewing Co.'s Iowa Trail Ale — free to volunteers!

Please note: There are limited number of tickets for this event. An RSVP is required. Registration deadline is May 27. RSVP at REI.com

Plan to arrive between 12 and 12:30 p.m. to get signed in and geared up. We'll have a brief safety meeting  at 12:45 p.m. Trail work will begin at 1:00 p.m. and go until 4:30 p.m. Rain date is June 2nd, 2019. No experience necessary, all the equipment you'll need is provided. Kids welcome! 

Free food, beverages and camping for volunteers! Please email Melissa at Melissa.Schmeling@polkcountyiowa.gov if you are planning to camp. If your family would prefer a family campsite, you may request that as well. We will need to know by May 28. Please indicate if you will be camping that evening at sign-in also. 

What to bring:
  • Water bottle
  • Sturdy boots or shoes that can get muddy
  • Hat, work gloves, sunscreen
  • All other equipment provided
