5th Annual Into the Wild and Out with the Mustard!

You're invited for a day of land care, community, a little exercise and a lot of fun at Heritage Valley, a 1,200-acre ecological preserve not usually open to the public.

Volunteers will work together in small groups to hand-pull garlic mustard, a highly invasive species. If left unchecked, garlic mustard can do serious damage to wooded landscapes. Learn more about garlic mustard.

Arrive early to enjoy coffee, conversation and learn about Heritage Valley. Stay for lunch and sample some garlic mustard pesto!

Two volunteer shifts are available. Sign up for one or spend the day with us! No experience necessary. Families welcome. All equipment will be provided. Let us know if you need assistance with transportation to the site.

Those interested in learning more about the spring plants found in Heritage Valley are invited join Professor Beth Lynch for a guided botany walk at 1 p.m. to discover what's growing in the prairies and woodlands found on the property.

An RSVP is required for this event. Contact Volunteer Coordinator Mary Runkel at mrunkel@inhf.org or 515-288-1846 ext. 17 (cell: 515-238-9974) to RSVP or with questions.
