Nature Walk: Summer Moths

Moths are the butterflies of darkness. Many are attracted to nighttime lighting, but because many are relatively small in size, we easily overlook them. Even the names are strange sounding and unfamiliar unlike many common butterflies. The larval stages often feed on common plants such as catnip, goldenrod, deciduous or coniferous trees, or common yard weeds. Leave your backdoor light on for a few hours on a warm, humid evening and you will attract a great many insects and maybe even one of these unique moths.

Today we’re taking a nighttime Nature Walk to feature some of summer’s most elusive insects. Have you ever spotted one of these moths fluttering around your backyard?
