Nature Walk: Rime Ice

Rime ice or rime frost is a common winter event. Its formation occurs when water droplets from ground fog make contact with an exposed object at below freezing temperatures. These common milkweed pods are covered with spicular rime ice crystals.

Lately Iowa’s weather has been pretty frosty – but just in case you haven’t gotten your fill of frozen winter phenomenons yet, today’s nature walk helps you get up close and personal with a unique seasonal happening.
