DIY Eggshell Flowerpots

A few weeks ago we asked what plants you’re most excited to add to your garden this season. But in case you can’t wait for the snow to thaw to get planting, our interns have a great DIY alternative for you.

In no time you can start your favorite seasonal veggies or herbs. All you need for these quick and easy eggshell flowerpots are seeds, items found around your kitchen and a sunny windowsill.

Plus, not only is this a great way to get your garden growing early in the season – this craft is also a great option for pint-sized gardeners who want to test out their green thumbs.

What you’ll need:

• Empty egg carton
• Empty, clean eggshells
• Potting soil
• Seeds of the plants you wish to grow

Start by cleaning out the shells of used eggs and cutting a cardboard egg carton in half. Then fill each eggshell about halfway with potting soil before adding seeds and covering with more soil.

Place on a sunny windowsill where you can easily water or mist your growing seedlings. Transplant your sprouts outside when they reach about 3 inches in height. Make sure to remove the eggshells before planting.
