Photographer James Balog to Speak at Drake University

Discover how the natural environment is documented and studied through a camera lens at the 2013 Martin Bucksbaum Distinguished Lecture at Drake University on Wednesday, April 3rd.

The event features acclaimed photographer James Balog. James has been a leader in photographing, understanding and interpreting the natural environment for three decades. To reveal the impact of climate change, James founded the Extreme Ice Survey (EIS), the most wide-ranging, ground-based, photographic study of glaciers ever conducted.

James is described as “an avid mountaineer with a graduate degree in geography and geomorphology” who “is equally at home on a Himalayan peak or a whitewater river, the African savannah or polar icecaps.” His work has appeared in such publications as Vanity Fair, National Geographic, Outside, and The New Yorker.
