Nature Walk: Perfect Camouflage

Mottled plumages of birds such as the brown creeper offer perfect camouflage. Creepers are tiny birds (less than six inches in length) that search the bark of trees for insects or spiders and their egg cases tucked in furrows or beneath layers of bark. Their starting point is usually near the base of a tree and they spiral upwards around its trunk. We have seen them respond to flowing sap on maples, which also attracts insects.
