Nature Walk: Nighttime Moths

Some moths are vividly marked and they may even have bright colors but their nighttime behavior and small size make it so they are rarely seen. The Raspberry Pyrausta (left) and the Horned Spanworm (right) are both are relatively common in late summer; however, the Hayworm is less than half an inch in size while the Spanworm is about one inch. Moths are generally the most common on warm, humid, windless nights and clustered near outdoor lights.
