Nature Walk: Night Light Critters

Posted on September 9, 2013 at 10:00 AM by Taylor Eisenhauer

Gray tree frogs and the white-lined sphinx are relatively the same size and both respond to outdoor lighting. The tree frog comes to find small moths to eat, while the sphinx, like other moths is simply attracted to night lighting. The sphinx is a nectar feeder and seeks out garden flowers such as phlox and salvia. If you leave a light on outside your home, you may be surprised what shows up!

What unique light-seeking creatures have you found outside your home recently? Were they insects, amphibians or mammals?
