State Forest Nursery Seedlings

Posted on October 18, 2013 at 10:00 AM by Taylor Eisenhauer

The State Forest Nursery aims to help people enrich their land with native plants while saving money! The State Forest Nursery's inexpensive bare-root seedlings are available for public purchase by landowners for timber production, wildlife habitat, erosion and aesthetics.

Every year the nursery grows, processes and distributes about 2,000,000 to 4,000,000 trees and shrubs that were grown from seed purchased from Iowa collectors.

It has been over 75 years since the Ames Nursery was created. These days, the self-supporting nursery is made up of 98 acres of land on the southern edge of Ames with a 20-acre addition in Montrose established in 1982.

If you are looking to add native trees and shrubs to your land, the State Forest Nursery has a variety of plants that can be ordered online or purchased on-site.

For more information about the nursery and available inventory, visit the State Forest Nursery website.
