Nature Walk: Bedded Down

White-tailed deer survive winter cold by taking advantage of available food supplies and utilizing habitat to reduce the effects of penetrating cold. This doe found shelter from the wind in a small woodland and insulation from the frozen earth on a thick bed of dry leaves. Freedom from disturbance also reduces stress and the need for extra food.
