Gear Up for Bike Month Iowa

April days are winding down and you know what that means—Bike Month is coming! Celebrate the entire month of May with Bike Month Iowa sponsored by the Des Moines Bicycle Collective. The committee has planned events almost every day of May designed to get you outdoors and on two wheels.

Events range from weekly “Handlebar Happy Hours” and biking to the farmers market to a self-guided tour of Des Moines’s private chicken coups! Check out the full list of events.

You can also compete in the Bike Commute Challenge and battle with other organizations and individuals to see who racks up the most miles on their way to and from work. Register your workplace or compete individually—either way it’s a great opportunity to get outdoors and live healthfully.

To kick Bike Month off, we’re having a little celebration. Stop down at the Riverwalk Hub in downtown Des Moines for Iowa By Trail’s Central Iowa launch party. We’ll be stamping Bike Month passports and celebrating all things trails. See you there!
